Lisa Robertson Studio at the Animo Pat Brown School in South Central Los Angeles, with playwright and Oscar-nominated screenwriter, Jose Rivera.
December, 2009: LRS took Act III of Jose Rivera’s, References to Salvador Dali Make Me Hot, to the Animo Pat Brown High School in South Central LA.
Morgan Lariah performed the role of Gabby and Brian Keith Gamble the role of Benito; Lisa directed the 30 minute piece. The response from the students, aged fifteen to nineteen, was overwhelming, and Lisa emailed Jose Rivera their reaction to the material and performance.
January, 2010: Playwright, Jose Rivera, generously agreed to participate in a Q and A with the students alongside actors Morgan and Brian. LRS class member Giovanni Bejarano also performed a monologue from the play. It was a stunning three hours of dialogue. Jose has subsequently returned to the school to give writing workshops with the students.
LRS has previously taken scenes to the school from Jesus Hopped the A-Train, Danny and The Deep Blue Sea and Julius Caesar.
